The portal page scrolls the latest topics, shows the topic of the day, shows the most urgent poll, and allows you to navigate several other things from one page. Check that out.
There has also been a perk added to your user cp page. You can now upload a picture (from a hosting site) of your latest kill as well as give the location, weapon type, and how you disposed of it for the entire board to see. Whenever a member views your profile they will see this info. Check my profile for an example. To use it, just go to your user cp and click on the "Latest Kills" tab!
