Trapping english sparrow with squirrel traps

Watched some sparrow hopping around in the yard and figured I would try to trap them in a squirrel trap for fun. It worked, trapped 8 sparrow, 4 of them males. Even trapped 2 at once one time. All I did was ziptie some stale bread to the trigger. When they tried to pull it off they set the trap.

Are sparrows a problem?

Absolutely. They are notorious for killing the young of song birds or breaking eggs and taking native species nests.

Check out this article. It's a bit outdated, and some of the info is a bit off (for example, they are not almost solely granivorous from what Ive seen), but it's got some good background info.
